Description
From the time of the newborn baby to the age of three, these infants are in the 1000-day
window period of developing gut microbe flora. The development of the intestinal flora in
this period will have a great influence to the intestinal health and the establishment of the
immune system in infants and young children. Also, it will affect the risk of several diseases
such as eczema, asthma and gastrointestinal diseases.
This test will detect bacteria and probiotics commonly found in the early
development of gut microbiota. For instance, the diversity and richness of
Ruminococcus increase in the gut of 6-month-old healthy infants. Therefore, if
Ruminococcus is detected, it may indicate that the gut microbiota is under healthy
development. Excessive pathogens will increase the risks of developing various
diseases, like allergy and eczema. Meanwhile, probiotics are the most important group
of bacteria in the human gut which can promote the intestinal micro-ecological balance
of infants and young child, inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria, enhance intestinal
barrier function, improve immunity and synthesize various nutrients. Therefore, probiotics
play a critical role in the health of infants and young children.
It is recommended that infants and young children with the following risk factor(s) to
undergo quantitative gut health testing, including:
• Caesarean section and non-breastfeeding
infants
• having experiences of using antibiotics
during infections
• Having digestive problems such as chronic
diarrhea and constipation
• Developed allergic diseases such as
eczema, asthma, nasal sensitivity and food
sensitivity
• Child with habit of picky eating
• Suitable for infants aged 0-3
